TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli police stormed the flashpoint al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds on Wednesday.
Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated bullets at Palestinian worshipers as they tried to storm the southernmost building inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.

Witnesses said that scores of Israeli settlers were touring the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound as they entered the Islamic holy site for the fourth day in a row, despite international warnings about Israel’s attempts to change the historic status quo at the mosque.
Palestinian worshipers were seen chanting slogans in defiance of Israeli settlers who broke into the compound.

Early on Wednesday, Israeli police forces dispersed Palestinians from the large plaza outside the mosque, while dozens remained inside and chanted “God is great,” according to a statement issued by the police.

Wednesday’s raid is the fifth this month. Far-right Israeli groups and settlers had announced plans to storm al-Aqsa this week in large numbers, starting from Sunday, to mark Passover.

At least 650 settlers stormed al-Aqsa on Tuesday, according to state news agency Wafa, after Israeli forces secured their way following a violent crackdown on Palestinian worshippers.

On Sunday, 545 settlers stormed the mosque and 561 more entered on Monday, according to the Waqf.

Tensions are expected to rise later on Wednesday with right-wing Israeli organizations likely to go ahead with a march around the walls of the Old City despite not having received an approval from the Israeli police.

The police have said they will not provide security for the Flag March, which is expected to pass the Damascus Gate that leads into to the Muslim Quarter on its way to the Western Wall, and asked the organizers to change the route.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces carried out raids and search campaigns in the occupied West Bank, arresting at least six Palestinians from Nablus, Ramallah and Bethlehem.
