*ISIS harshly stoned woman to death in public in Ramadan

Extremists of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) on Thursday stoned an Iraqi woman to death on charges of committing adultery, local sources and eyewitnesses reported.

The ISIS-led Islamic Police [al-Hisba] detained a woman in al-Tahrir district in the city of Mosul, accusing her of committing adultery. The Sharia Court then decided to stone her to death in public.

“Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Zahraa mosque in eastern Mosul to witness the execution of the woman,” reported media activist Abdullah al-Malla.

Eyewitnesses reported that ISIS militants obliged a number of civilians to participate in stoning the victim.

“They called on people to take part in the execution, saying we’re in the holy month of Ramadan and we should show commitment to Allah’s Sharia and that the woman deserved death for committing adultery,” said an eyewitness, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Raafat al-Zarari, head of the Nineveh media centre, said that ISIS members are now heavily deployed in the residential neighbourhoods of Mosul city.

“Since the start of Ramadan, the ISIS takfiris have been observing the movements in the streets and looking for people who broke their fast in order to punish them,” said Zarari. “When they find no offenders to their strict rules, they create some baseless accusations in order to punish the people, like the case of the woman stoned in al-Tahrir district.”
