At the beginning of the 20th century and in August 1914, the First World War began in Europe between Germany as the leader of the Axis Powers and the Allied forces led by France and Great Britain and lasted for four years. At the beginning of the war, millions of people in Europe supported the decision of their rulers to enter the war by dancing and stomping on the streets in the big cities. Shortly after that, the First World War victims and the destruction of European cities made the taste of the people of this continent bitter.

The First World War tore apart four European empires, including Germany, Austria, and Hungary, and the Russian Empire also fell into the hands of the Bolshevik revolutionaries. About 10 million people died in this war.

In September 1939, Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany, decided to become an absolute power in Europe, and the Second World War began. But after 1943, the Allied forces, consisting of American, Soviet, and British Forces, prevailed over Germany. More than twenty million Europeans died in this war.

According to historians, the first half of the 20th century was the most violent period in the history of Europe, full of war, killing, looting, and deliberate destruction of ethnic and cultural communities. Although the deadly wars in Europe subsided in the late 1950s, the repeated aggression of European governments against their people and violations of human rights continued, and the 20th century was called the “century of violence in Europe.

Major wars continued in Europe as a “war-prone continent” of various types, including civil war, wars of conquest, religious conflicts, and occupation of colonies, after the First and Second World Wars, like the Turkish-Greek War, the Spanish Civil War, the Balkan Wars (Former Yugoslavia). The wars of European colonialists in other continents like Rwanda led to the people genocide.
